SFXMint

SFXMint is a sound effects library you can search, hear and download in a browser tab. It holds more than 10,300 sounds grouped into categories such as 8-bit and retro game sounds, impacts and hits, magic and sci-fi, footsteps, horror, nature and ambience, UI sounds and animals. There are themed packs that sound like they belong to one game, a popular list based on recent downloads, and side projects like a soundboard and a guess-the-sound game.

The licensing is the main reason to use it. Every sound is dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0, so you can put it in a YouTube video, a Steam or itch.io game, an app or an ad without crediting anyone or paying a licence fee. Hotlinking the audio files is allowed, and the file URLs don't change.

The About page says nothing is scraped or copied from other libraries. Sounds are generated with Stability AI or produced with the site's own procedural synth generators, then checked file by file for format, duration and checksum, and each sound's page lists its measurements. Because the sounds are AI-generated, the FAQ points out that Steam's content survey asks about AI-made assets, including sound, and links a guide on how to disclose them.

Listening is unlimited and free. Without an account you can download 10 MP3s a day. For developers, a JSON API, an MCP server and an npx command let Claude Code, Cursor or Codex search the library and pull sounds into a project, and each result includes the file's length, measured attack and SHA-256. That works without a key for 20 lookups and 5 downloads a day, and a free key raises it to 100 lookups and 20 downloads. The $9.90 download pack removes the limits for 30 days and adds lossless WAV files and ZIP packs. A $69 yearly pack covers heavier use with AI tools, and neither renews automatically.

SFXMint is built by an independent developer known as flreey. Its privacy policy, updated November 1, 2026, says browsing and downloading need no account, sign-in runs through Clerk, payments go through outside processors including PayPal, and Cloudflare hosts the site and audio files.
