Project Note

A closer look at Sprita

Turns a prompt or character image into a cleaned-up PNG sprite sheet for 2D games, with idle, walk, attack and custom motions.

What it does

Sprita covers the gap between having a character and having a sprite sheet your engine can use. You start from a text description or upload artwork you already have, confirm the character, then pick a motion such as idle, walk, run, attack, cast, hit or a custom action. Sprita generates a short continuous clip with the camera, scale and ground line held steady. From there the work is choosing frames. You pull frames out of the clip, remove a green or blue background, check edges, feet, hands and equipment, preview the loop and export a fixed-grid PNG.

The site is upfront that generated motion needs a human pass, and the tools are built around that. You can pause on any pose, enlarge it, compare frames and keep only the ones that hold together. It also offers 4- and 8-direction sprites, and every paid plan includes a Godot 4.x plugin. The top plan adds Director Mode with finer controls, batches of up to six motions and read-only API and MCP access.

Credits and plans

Only cloud generation costs credits. A source image costs 1 or 2 credits depending on resolution. A motion clip costs 1 credit for about 1.2 seconds at 480p, 4 for four seconds at 480p and 7 for four seconds at 720p. Prompt refinement, importing your own art, frame extraction, background cleanup, preview and export are free, and they keep working when you run out of credits. Uploading your own character skips the image cost.

The free tier is one complete starter project after a Google or email sign-in and a bot check. Starter is $9 a month for 40 credits, Creator $19 for 100 and Director $39 for 200, all billed monthly. An Energy Pack adds 40 non-expiring credits for $10. Failed generations don't use up your credits, while consumed credits and downloads are generally non-refundable.

Storage, data and rights

Your files sit in a private Asset Vault while a membership is active, and you get 30 days to download them after it ends. Without a membership, cloud media is kept for 30 days from your last save. The privacy policy says Cloudflare hosts the app and storage, Waffo Pancake handles checkout, and prompts and images go to the AI and moderation services only when you start a generation or a safety check. Sprita says it doesn't train its own general-purpose model on your private media. The terms say outputs may not be exclusive, grant no rights to third-party characters or game IP, and ask you to check rights and quality yourself before commercial use.
